En garde!

Last night our elder's quorum hosted a fencing activity. One of the guys in the ward owns a fencing studio, so he brought his swords and gear for us to try out, and gave us a lesson.

Here I'm poking our elder's quorum president over and over with a sword. It's surprisingly hard allow yourself to stab someone you know and like.

Chris and I geared up, but didn't fight each other. Chris did a little sword play with another guy.
I let a girl stab me over and over so she could practice her lunges. Not something you normally do at church...

Chris is the guy in tan shorts. He and Taylor were pretty good together. It was fun to watch!

Ethan and Josh had a chance to take a lesson for a few minutes. They were pretty good at it, and talked about using a sword the whole way home. Someday maybe they can take fencing lessons.

Go Gators!

Tonight we walked to Lake Alice to check on our gator friends. The water was really high and there were gators all over the place. Here is a gator with a creepy red eye.

I think the kids were watching the turtles in the lake in this picture. The kid in the orange shirt is one of our neighbors. Josh apparently didn't want to get too close to the water.

You can see the gator the kids are watching in the bottom right of this picture, swimming away from them.

Gaylene was concerned when a gator went underwater.

Here is a video of a gator swimming up to us. He stayed in the water. Maybe he just wanted a closer look.

What we did on Labor Day:

We watched a boy with a blue mohawk work hard at spinning the merry-go-round for all the other kids who mostly just sat there and looked frightened. We would have gone to the beach but we figured it would be too crowded, being the last big summer-type holiday until next year. So we went to the crowded park instead.

Not sure what Ethan's expression is here, but it's a good one...
